Academia, or:Begining my katabasis at the Nekromanteion.
Let me start by explaining what this is. I am currently enrolled and majoring in Classical Humanities. As part of this, I will write a senior thesis, in part to prepare for and use in applicaations for graduate school. While this is not a requirement for my specific program, it is a necessity for me, and my own academic goals.
In addition to the courses required for my major, and a senior thesis, I will be taking French, German, and Ancient Greek, as I intend to go on to an Egyptology PhD program after graduation, and specialize in the Greco-Egyptian Period.
This, then, will function twofold. First, to provide a record of my time spent working on this, to talk through my process and my research. A study blog, as it were. In this, it will also give a record of every source I look through, every bit of material I search within, both those that get used and those that do not. Secondly, to share and show what this sort of work is actually like. At least for myself, a mentally ill, disabled student without any real funding. I think it's important to show what this is truly like, the good and the bad, as I work through an undergraduate thesis.
As I begin work, take classes, and shift thing around, I will continue to update this.

As of right now (and prior to this, if I've being frank), my general thoughts on what I might want to do this thesis on boils down to 'medicine in Ancient Greece being not only medicinebut also magic/religion'. Of course, because I'm still me, I do also constantly think about potential death culture thesis concepts. No doubt as I begin my classic courses this summer I will start to get a better idea of what I might actually want to do my research in.
